My Tattoo - Cameron’s Story

sickgirl

So in High School I was really into Punk Rock. At Westminster HS in California that wasn’t the easiest thing. My school was only about 10% white. and maybe 1.5% punk rockers.
I was into The Clash mostly at this point (inspiring my chest piece “the clash” in my own handwriting). Most of the kids at school didn’t understand why I was a white girl with liberty spikes and cut off Dickie’s and home made shirts with marker all over them but I simply didn’t care.

I went to school every day not giving a crap what other people thought.
The few kids who did know what punk was thought I was only doing it for fashion.
Passion is a fashion Joe Strummer of the clash once wore that on a shirt of his.
Needless to say I was called by the other “punks” a poser. I thought It was hilarious how
they could call me a poser and never know me. At age 15 I started dating a guy who was a drummer in a fairly popular punk band. He would come pick me up from school and I thought it was pretty cool. Allot of those kids who called me a poser would start asking me for tickets to his shows, I could only reply “sorry I’m a poser I can’t help you out”.

Most people in my neighborhood (all Hispanic and Vietnamese) had allot of gang related tattoos. It would either say their last name in old English (like my step brother who’s last name is Bracamontes) or something representing “OC” orange county or their gang.

posertattoo

In 2004 when I wanted to make a statement about where I was from and my whole experience of living where I did I decided to get POSER tatted on my back in old English. reassuring all those idiots who were “punk” back then I’m still the same. I’m almost 26, still rockin the Mohawk and still listening to the clash. I just thought it was original and funny. And yeah it totally means something to me. It’s not meant for you to “get it” it’s for me. Just like all tattoos should be. For yourself and I still don’t give a crap what anyone else thinks, that’s punk! -

switchblade

The two switch blades on my upper shoulders are from the song “SICK GIRL/ SICK BOYS” by Social Distortion. There’s a few lines I thought described me such as
“Sick-girl, she carries a switch blade knife” “Sick-girl, combs her hair up just right.
Sick-girl, with tattoos up and
Down her arms, don’t ya know…”

Since i wear my hair up allot i just thought it was some good lines and the band appeals to me as being the one and only good punk band to come out of Orange County aka the 714 so That’s why I got it. Cammy - “ORANGE COUNTY 714″ California.
